School Board Minutes

February 13, 2006

There was a regular meeting of the West Fork School Board on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the board room.   Those present were Jerry Boyd, Karen Daugherity, Tim Helder, Deborah Harnish and Daryl Quinton.

1.                  Meeting was called to order by President Jerry Boyd.

2.                  Pledge of Allegiance and prayer were led by Dr. Joey Walters. 

3.                  Motion by Daryl Quinton second Karen Daugherity to approve the minutes from the January meeting. Motion carried. (5-0)

4.                  The board reviewed the financial statement.

5.                  Dr. Walters shared information concerning the Immediate Repair Projects.

6.                  Dr. Walters talked about the Northwest Arkansas Economics Development District and the possibility of a future FEMA grant for safe rooms.

7.                  Dr. Walters told the board that the On Site Standards Review went very excellent.

8.                  West Fork Schools received a $10,000.00 Technology Grant from the ARVEST/Walton Foundation. It will be used to upgrade and replace older computers.

9.                  Tracy Laird received a $2,500.00 grant from Best Buy.  She will be able to redeem it at Best Buy for technology equipment.

10.              Mr. Skelton shared information on West Fork’s partnership with the University of Arkansas for an Educational Renewal Zone Grant which is directed towards Middle School Professional Development.

11.              Dr. Walters shared information from the first Task Force meeting which was held in January.  The committee will be instrumental in future plans for the school.

12.              Motion by Deborah Harnish second Tim Helder to transfer Jacob Ryan Winkler from Greenland. Motion carried. (5-0)

13.              Motion by Karen Daugherity second Daryl Quinton to transfer Phillip Reed from Greenland. Motion carried. (5-0)

14.              Motion by Tim Helder second Deborah Harnish to transfer Dennis Eldredge II from Springdale. Motion carried. (5-0).

15.              Motion by Daryl Quinton second Karen Daugherity to hire Jason Barnes as middle school special ed aide. Motion carried. (5-0)

16.              Motion by Tim Helder second Daryl Quinton to approve the attached Resolution for Arkansas Facilities Partnership Plan for 2006-07. Motion carried. (5-0)

17.              Motion by Deborah Harnish second Karen Daugherity to approve the Arkansas Teacher Retirement Payroll Reduction Resolution per A.C.A. 24-7-406. Motion carried. (5-0) See attached.

18.              Motion by Tim Helder second Karen Daugherity to approve a 3% increase in Delta Dental Insurance from $27.41 to $28.52. Motion carried. (5-0)

19.              Motion by Tim Helder second Deborah Harnish to approve the bus bid from Thomas Bus Sales of $63,298.00. Motion carried. (5-0) See attached.

20.              The board went in to executive session.

21.              The board went back in to regular session.

22.              Motion by Daryl Quinton second Karen Daugherity to hire Pat Thaler as elementary       principal. Motion carried. (5-0)

23.              Motion by Tim Helder second Deborah Harnish to hire David Skelton as middle school principal. Motion carried. (5-0)

24.              Motion by Deborah Harnish second Daryl Quinton to hire John Karnes as high school principal. Motion carried. (5-0)

25.              Jerry Boyd thanked West Fork Schools for all their help and support during the funeral of Jimmy Boyd.

26.              Motion by Tim Helder second Daryl Quinton to adjourn. Motion carried. (5-0)
