School Board Minutes

April 9, 2007 

There was a regular meeting of the West Fork School Board on Monday, April 9, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. in the board room. Those present were Karen Daugherity, Jerry Boyd, Daryl Quinton, Deborah Harnish and Tim Helder. 

1. The meeting was called to order by President Karen Daugherity. 

2. Pledge of Allegiance and prayer were led by Tim Helder. 

3. Motion by Jerry Boyd second Tim Helder to approve the minutes of the March meeting. Motion carried. (5-0)  

4. Certificates were awarded to the ACE Team for state champions and to the girls basketball team for co-conference champs. 

5. The board reviewed the financial statement. 

6. The principals gave their reports. 

7. Mrs. Barrett gave the superintendent’s report. 

8. President Karen Daugherity directed that it be hereby noted that the board toured all schools on April 9, 2007 while students wee present. 

9. Motion by Tim Helder second Daryl Quinton to approve the transfer of Erika Spurlock from       Greenland. Motion carried. (5-0) 

10. The board reviewed the following proposed changes to the certified personnel policy handbook:

-to change the sick leave reimbursement policy to make it equal to the substitute pay rate which  at this time would be from $25.00 to $50.00.

- to adopt a more comprehensive professional development policy.     

The changes will be recommended for action at the May meeting.     

The board went into executive session.     

The board went back into regular session. 

11. Motion by Deborah Harnish second Jerry Boyd to approve re-hiring the certified staff for 2007-08.       Motion carried. (5-0) See attached. 

12. Motion by Daryl Quinton second Tim Helder to hire Cody Vaught as Spanish teacher for the 2007-   2008 school year. Motion carried. (5-0)

13. Motion by Jerry Boyd second Tim Helder to hire Hylton Sonny Walshe as custodian      effective April 9, 2007. Motion carried. (5-0) 

14. Motion by Tim Helder second Deborah Harnish to approve the attached school calendar for      2007-08. Motion carried. (5-0) 

15. Motion by Jerry Boyd second Tim Helder to approve the bid for computers for the elemen-       tary library lab from MWAVE of $16,795.00. Motion carried. (5-0) See attached. 

16. Motion by Deborah Harnish second Daryl Quinton to approve the adoption of middle school science textbooks as follows: 5th & 6th grade—Harcort,  7th grade—Prentice Hall, 8th grade—Holt Rinehart Winston. Motion carried. (5-0) 

17. Motion by Tim Helder second Daryl Quinton to adjourn. Motion carried. (5-0)
