Principal's Welcome

As the elementary principal at West Fork Elementary School, I would like to extend a welcome to all who have accessed our school web site.

West Fork Elementary School is nestled in the scenic Boston Mountains of the Ozark Mountain region.  This setting provides a beautiful backdrop for a public school which counts among its many successes, a low teacher turnover rate, a better than average performance upon standardized tests, and a caring faculty that treats its children as they would their own.

At West Fork Elementary, we believe that one our greatest strengths is our teaching faculty and staff.  Of the 34 licensed faculty members, 14 have advanced degrees of Master of Education or better.  All of our non-licensed staff members possess a NCLB Highly Qualified Certification, and three of those non-licensed staff members hold an Associates Degree or higher.

As with every public school in the nation, West Fork Elementary is expected to achieve a certain level of proficiency within the academic realm.  That level of proficiency, or Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), is dictated by the Arkansas Department of Education, and escalates yearly in increments set to culminate at 100% of the student body being proficient by the year 2010.  Thus far, for the 2007-2008 school year, West Fork Elementary is above the AYP cut off in both literacy and mathematics.  The specifics of those tests and scores are available on the Arkansas Education Web Site @ arkansas.gov.

Most important of all of the responsibilities that we assume in our school is the commitment to ensure that all of our children are safe and healthy.  All of our faculty and staff, which includes a social worker, two nurses, and counselors, are well versed and cognizant of what our children need to be safe and healthy and know how to access services in the event that that is not happening in a child’s life.

We hope that you find your virtual visit to our school to be enlightening, and that if you are considering a move to our area, that you consider our school as one of the deciding factors in locating in Northwest Arkansas.

Sincerely,

Pat Thaler/Elementary Principal
