PTO Minutes April 2008

West Fork Elementary PTO
Meeting Minutes 04/07/08.

The monthly PTO meeting took place in the school library on 04/07/08 at 6pm.

We had a good turnout at the Internet Safety Presentation on February 4 which was given by the Fayetteville Police Department.  They did a wonderful job making us aware of  all the dangers that are presented to our children and gave us great tips on what we can do to make it safer.  Dr. Robin Lundstrum gave an equally outstanding presentation in her role as ‘The Askable Parent’ and covered many topics that we should all be discussing with our children.

Treasurer’s report shows a current balance of $1827.17.  Recent deposits include a profit of $54.62 from the family movie night and $329.10 from the Reindeer Lane Gift Shop.

We discussed several ideas for Teacher Appreciation week which will take place the week of May 5 – 9.  We all agreed on Tracy Roebke’s idea to place a picnic table or bench outside to give the teachers a place to relax for a short time away from the crowds. We will incorporate it into the new garden area that the school will be planning over the next few months.  Ms. Johnson will email her co-workers to get an idea of what food items they would like to see during that week.  We will have food provided that week based on what feedback we receive.

We found out that the annual Fun Day is in the planning stages and that a committee made up of teachers has already been selected to work out the details.  Inflatables will be omitted this year so other fun things will be incorporated.  PTO may provide an obstacle course depending on what ideas come out of the committee.  Look for this to be our main topic of discussion at the May meeting.  One thing that PTO will do is sell t-shirts at a discounted rate for Fun Day.  Ms. Rich is in charge of ordering.  We will provide shirts to the teachers as an appreciation gift that they can all wear to Fun Day.

Ms. Rich is planning a Parent Night on Tuesday, April 29.  She suggested that PTO provide or sell refreshments as several adults that attended the last Parent Night mentioned this idea.  We will check to see what donations can be secured.  At this point it looks like we will offer a hotdog / chip/ drink combo for $2.  Jess Goodwin and Mr. Thaler will do the grilling.

Math-a-thon is scheduled for Thursday, April 24.  Tracy will take care of making all copies and she and Jess will be at school that day to supervise and grade the tests.

In order to promote future membership in PTO, Jess Goodwin will be on hand April 22 when West Fork has the Kindergarten Roundup.  She will answer any questions that parents might have and encourage them to join us for the next school year.

The next and final meeting of the 2007-2008 school year is scheduled for Monday, May 5.   At this meeting we will take nominations and vote in our 2008-2009 officers, which include President, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer.
